How to market your For sale by Owner House
copyright Randy Melton 2006
Page under development
This page documents the steps we took to sell our house ourselves.
We though about using a real estate agent, and decided that we could
do a comparable job of marketing it ourselves. We'll never know if an
agent could have done a better job.
Our thoughts were that with the Internet and newspapers we could reach
many potential buyers and with an aggressive marketing campaign we could
possibly do batter than an agent where our house would be treated like
any other they are marketing.
- set up an email account dedicated to tracking sales leads.
you will use this for all house correspondence.
- Establish a web site dedicated to your house.
You should put as much house information here as possible,
including price and your contact information.
I explain the process i used to set up this web site at:
creatingThisWebsite.
(You can see our fsbo web site at olneyhome.com - A Home For Sale in Olney MD)
- craigslist.org
- misterlister - I'm still undecided on this, they get you a cheap MLS entry,
but depending on your "agent" it can be difficult to get the MLS entry to your liking.
(Note you can't link back to your website, and the agent does get a
link to his from your MLS entry. Also note that there is a hidden section of
each MLS entry viewable only by real estate agents, so unless you have are friends
with an agent you will not be able to see what is published there.
- postlets.com - I love this site so far!
- oodle.com
- backpage.com
- base.google.com
- google.com/analytics
- zillow.com - make sure your information is correct here
- pennysaver.com
- owners.com - I haven't tried this site, but they look interesting
I'd like to thank our friends
Peter and Maggie Baumbach for giving us
good realestate advice throughout the process.
